Florida villas: The importance of travel insurance

Brits who are planning to head on an overseas getaway, perhaps to Florida villas, have been urged to take out travel insurance before their trip.

Research conducted by Sainsbury's Travel Insurance has shown the importance of such cover to make sure that holiday makers are not left out of pocket.

The firm has found that the average cost of medical bills that Brits need to fork out to pay for falling ill while abroad in 2010 racked in at £1,333.41.

When it came to visiting the US, Sainsbury's Travel Insurance found that this average bill rose considerably to £4,725, due to the cost of care being particularly high in this country.

As a result, Phil Lord, of the Foreign Office's Know Before You Go Campaign, noted: "Such figures highlight the importance of taking out insurance before you travel. Many people try to cut holiday costs, only to discover that when things go wrong they are obliged to pay thousands of pounds in bills."

Brits will want to try and avoid falling ill when visiting villas in Florida this September, when the Sunshine State hosts both the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) Pro Am Surf Festival and the Home Design & Remodelling Show.
