Florida villa holiday makers can check out Miami Heat

People enjoying a Florida villa holiday break over the next few weeks may wish to head to Miami, where basketball fans are gearing up for the new NBA season.

The city's very own Miami Heat will be warming up for the new term in October with several pre-season games.

Basketball enthusiasts can head over to the American Airlines Arena, where the team will be taking on the San Antonio Spurs on October 11th and the Memphis Grizzlies on October 21st.

The Heat's first game of the regular season is scheduled to take place on October 28th, when they will face the New York Knicks in front of their home crowd, so they will be hoping to get a proper work out in the preceding games.

Last year, Miami stormed into the post-season playoffs, thanks in large part to the monumental efforts of star player Dwyane Wade, who managed to score more than 2,300 points.

However, they came unstuck against the Atlanta Hawks in the first round, so will be hoping to go one better in 2009-10.

Miami Heat won the NBA Championship in 2006, in a year when they also secured the Eastern Conference and Southeast Division titles.
