Florida holidays 'offer diverse experiences'

Britons planning Florida holidays this year will find that there is more to experience in the destination than theme parks and rollercoasters, according to a travel expert.

Simon Calder, travel editor of the Independent, pointed out that people taking overseas breaks are always faced with the choice of relaxing and staying in their "comfort zone" or being more adventurous and exploring their destination.

Those who choose the latter could gain some more fulfilling and memorable experiences during their Florida holiday, according to Mr Calder.

"I would always urge people to get out and about and explore as much as they can of the destination," he said.

"Orlando and Florida is a very diverse place. Besides the theme park attractions of Disney and Universal, you have vast amounts in terms of architecture and the great outdoors."

The travel expert also acknowledged the importance of the Walt Disney World Resort and other family attractions in the region, describing them as "an important part of any Florida holiday for an awful lot of people".
