Florida holiday makers can see rare animals at Naples Zoo
People enjoying a villa holiday in Florida may wish to travel to Naples Zoo, which has an exquisite collection of rare animals on show.
Among them is the fosa, a mammalian predator from the island of Madagascar that few have seen in the flesh, thanks to its lightning quick speed.
Now on the endangered-species list, there are less than 40 fosas in the US and the Gulf Coast's Naples Zoo is the only sanctuary in the south-east to house any of the creatures.
As well as seeing the animals themselves, visitors will also be able to learn all about them through flip panels and graphics.
Beyond the fosas, Naples Zoo also boasts lions, tigers, leopards, African wild dogs, gazelles, zebras, kangaroos, monkeys, snakes, alligators and lemurs, to name but a few of the species that can be found there.
Naples Zoo, which also boasts a restaurant and a gift shop, is open throughout the year from 9.00 to 17.00 local time, with tickets sold up to 16.00 local time on the day.
Fosas are endemic to Madagascar along with 90 per cent of its mammals and plants, meaning that they cannot be found living naturally anywhere else in the world.
