Catch a shuttle launch on a Florida holiday

Families planning Orlando villa holidays in Florida this summer may wish to schedule their break around one of 2010's shuttle launches.

The Discovery space shuttle blasted off from the Kennedy Space Centre this week, leaving behind a spectacular arc of light in the early morning sky.

Discovery will spend two days in space on a voyage to the International Space Station, manned by three female astronauts.

They will join another woman already at the station, setting a record for the most women in space at any one time.

Holiday makers heading to Florida can visit the Kennedy Space Centre during their break to find out more about the Discovery fleet and its missions.

They may also be lucky enough to see a future shuttle launch, with the Atlantis planned for lift off in May and the Endeavour due to enter space in July.

Attractions at the Kennedy Space Centre include the new Shuttle Launch Experience, which allows guests to take their own journey into space thanks to exciting simulation technology.

Florida villa holiday makers can also take guided tours of the space centre, watch a fascinating movie in the IMAX theatre and visit the NASA Rocket Garden.
