Calusa Nature Center wowing Florida family holiday makers

People on a Florida Gulf Coast villa holiday will find plenty to keep them and their children entertained at the Calusa Nature Center and Planetarium in Fort Myers, Florida.

The reserve has just opened a new Insectarium exhibit, which is sure to have people of all ages bug-eyed at the live specimens and interactive displays.

Kids will be able to make insect-inspired crafts, meet a real life entomologist (a bug expert) and even taste cricket cookies!

Those on holiday in a Florida villa next month will also be able to take part in Calusa Nature Center's Haunted Walk, which will take place on various evenings during October and feature plenty of ghoulish surprises in time for Halloween.

For those just planning to spend a day learning about the natural world, the museum and its various trails are open from 9.00 to 17.00 local time Mondays to Saturdays and 11.00 to 17.00 on Sundays.

Spread over 105 acres, the Calusa Nature Center and Planetarium is home to more than 100 different types of animal and attracts 60,000 visitors a year.

Animal lovers on Florida's Gulf Coast may also wish to visit Naples Zoo, which boasts dozens of species from all over the globe.
