Book a Gulf Coast holiday and visit the swamp sanctuary

Families booking Gulf Coast villa holidays in Florida can get close to nature at the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary near Naples.

This environmental attraction features a 2.25-mile raised boardwalk which passes through four different landscapes.

Visitors completing the walk will wander into a pine upland, a wet prairie, a cypress forest and a marsh.

Plant life and animals native to each environment can be spotted along the way and interpretive signs will help guests identify them.

Birds, reptiles, mammals and insects can all be found in the sanctuary, although sightings will vary depending on the time of year holiday makers are visiting.

Families may be lucky enough to spot alligators, river otters, northern yellow bats or striped skunks.

A shorter one-mile trail is also available for those who do not wish to complete the whole walk.

Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary is located north-east of Naples, so those renting Gulf Coast villas in the town will be able to drive there in no time.

Naples is close to six miles of white sandy beaches, where holiday makers may also spot some interesting wildlife.
