Book a Gulf Coast holiday and enjoy excellent bird watching
Florida's Gulf Coast is renowned for its natural attractions, including its vast array of wildlife, both on land and in the water.
There are also numerous bird species living in the region and some great place that holiday makers can go to spot them.
In an article posted on the area's official tourism website, travel writer Chelle Koster Walton listed several of these places.
She said the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary in Naples is perhaps the best bird watching destination on the Gulf Coast.
Here, visitors can see wood storks, white ibis, red-bellied woodpeckers and warblers, as well as many other colourful species.
Ms Koster Walton also recommended a trip to the Everglades for nature lovers, where some bigger birds, such as pelicans, hawks, eagles and ospreys can be found.
On Marco Island, the American bald eagle is emblematic, she pointed out. The beach areas are a haven for wildlife, with gulls and ospreys performing aerial fishing routines and wading birds pecking for lunch along the sand bars.
Those hoping to make use of their binoculars during their Gulf Coast holiday could rent a Florida villa on Marco Island, from where they can take a day trip to the Everglades and Naples.
