Book a Gulf Coast holiday and check out Miami's art scene

Art lovers renting a Gulf Coast villa holiday in Florida will find plenty to occupy themselves in the famous city of Miami.

Situated close to Florida villa resorts in Naples, Fort Myers and Marco Island, Miami boasts a bevy of quality galleries and museums.

Near the top of the list is the Miami Art Museum (MAM), which features a constantly changing array of exhibitions.

Currently on at the respected institution is a show by Portuguese artist Carlos Bunga entitled Metamorphosis that is due to run until the end of February 2010.

His first solo show in the US, it focuses on two large-scale installations made from perishable materials to explore the constantly changing urban landscape.

Meanwhile, Space as Medium is running over the same period in the MAM's Collection Gallery and looks at the way modern art has developed to incorporate its three-dimensional surroundings, becoming much more than paint on canvases.

As well as its temporary exhibitions, the museum also has permanent collections that can be enjoyed by visitors all year round.

These include works by modernist US artists dating from the 1960s and 1970s through to today.
