Winter holiday in Cyprus 'offers countless possibilities'

There is no limit on the number of activities and pursuits people can carry out while on holiday in Cyprus this winter.

Maria Socratous, tourist officer for the Cyprus Tourism Organisation, says visitors "can do anything" all around the Mediterranean island.

She notes hiking is a particularly popular pastime in the country, with the Troodos Mountains arguably the highlight for such a hobby.

But it is not only walking boots that tourists need to pack when heading on holiday to Cyprus, as skiing equipment and snowboards could be just as handy at this time of year.

"It does snow in Cyprus," explains Ms Socratous, adding: "You just have to choose the right time of year. You don't come in the summer because we have 45 degrees in July."

According to recent figures from the organisation, almost half of all arrivals in Cyprus during the first eight months of 2010 were from the UK.
