Villa in Cyprus may be perfect setting for romantic break

The qualities of Cyprus as a romantic destination for lovers to travel to together have been emphasised by one tourist chief, with a villa on the island perhaps the perfect place for such people to stay.

Orestis Rossides, UK director at the Cyprus Tourism Organisation, says the reputation of the resort as a place for romantics goes back to the days of Marc Antony, who gave it to Cleopatra as a symbol of his affections.

Today, there remains plenty for both him and her to enjoy during a break in the Mediterranean destination.

"Whether pampering at the spas, playing golf, hiking, biking, wine tasting, [or exploring] 10,000 years of historical heritage and culture," tourists will not be stuck for something to do, the director states.

The coming months may be the ideal time to visit Cyprus for some winter sun and figures from ACI Europe suggest people are already choosing to get away, with a 7.8 per cent rise in air passenger numbers in September compared with the same month in 2009.
