View 'contemporary art in an ancient city' while on a Cyprus holiday

Art lovers will be spoilt for choice while on a Cyprus villa holiday, with the island offering a taste of culture alongside its pristine beaches and natural beauty.

According to Artinfo.com, there are a number of notable art venues worth visiting in Nicosia, described as the island's "cultural centre of gravity" and where people can view "contemporary art in an ancient city".

The website states that the Centre of Contemporary Art Diatopos, the only Cypriot gallery to attend the international art fair in Greece last year, is well worth a visit, as is the non-profit Pharos Centre for Contemporary Art.

The unique Nicosia Municipal Arts Centre, housed in a restored former electrical station complete with book store and restaurant, should also feature on any contemporary art lover's itinerary.

After a day spent admiring the island's artistic offerings, head to the traditional town squares featuring local restaurants, shops and bars for an evening of live Bouzouki music and dancing.

Or enjoy a long, relaxed evening meal at one of the many local tavernas, offering holiday makers the chance to dine on a range of traditional cuisine.
