Turkey and Cyprus holidays 'still cheaper than UK'
Taking a holiday in Cyprus or Turkey is still a cheaper option than staying at home for a break in the UK, according to recent research.
Tesco Travel Money carried out a study that looked at holiday expenses including car hire, eating out and family entertainment.
People planning Cyprus holidays this year will be interested to hear that Limassol was described as a "bargain", with an overall cost of £1,739 for a family of four staying for a week.
The Cypriot town was the fourth cheapest of the destinations surveyed by Tesco Travel Money, while Bodrum, a popular destination for Turkey holidays, was ranked sixth ahead of locations such as Brighton in the UK and Athens in Greece.
John Howells, head of the company, encouraged holiday makers to do some research on different destinations before setting off.
"Holiday costs have clearly been impacted by the euro exchange rate and rising costs in the recession, therefore families wanting a holiday on a shoestring really need to do their research to make their money go further," he said.
