Troodos Mountains drive a Cyprus holiday highlight

A drive up into the Troodos Mountains could be the highlight of a Cyprus villa holiday, according to one travel journalist.

In an article for the Daily Mail, Philip Norman said those who can tear themselves away from the beach to visit the peaks will be rewarded for their willpower.

It is in these mountains that "morning light gives the slopes a smoky blue patina" and holiday makers can marvel at the stunning views below.

Mr Norman said there is a small collection of shops and stalls high up in the range where visitors can sample locally-grown pecans, crystallised grape-juice and sweet sherry-like liquor.

Along the mountain roads they will come across several Greek Orthodox chapels with their steep pitched roofs, dating back to the Ottoman rule.

Those hoping to rent a car and drive into the Troodos Mountains during their Cyprus villa holiday could stay in Argaka, which is not far away.

Situated close to the coastline, the village could act as a perfect base for those hoping to do some inland exploring as well as spending time on the beach.

A number of secluded beaches can be found a short drive away and those looking for some evening entertainment could head to the nearby resorts of Latchi and Polis.
