Travellers urged to explore countryside on Cyprus holidays
People planning a Cyprus villa holiday this year will be missing out on a memorable experience if they do not see the island's rural areas.
That is according to Lillian Panayi, a spokesperson for the Cyprus Tourism Organisation, who said it would be "a big mistake" not to embark on an adventure into the countryside for a genuine experience of Cypriot culture.
One of the main advantages of exploring the island's more remote areas, according to Ms Panayi, is seeing its small villages and trying the cuisine on offer at local restaurants.
She said that sitting outside and admiring the scenery while sampling kleftiko lamb with local wine or brandy should be one of the highlights of any Cyprus holiday.
"It would be a big mistake not to drive into the countryside and it's very easy to drive around Cyprus - we drive on the left and all the road signs are in English," Ms Panayi commented.
"To get into the small towns and villages is great, to dust off all the cobwebs and just to chill out."
The Cyprus Tourism Organisation recently carried out a survey which found that 58 per cent of travellers like to try local cuisine when they are visiting a foreign country.
