Shipwreck 'proving popular' among people on Cyprus holidays
People planning a Cyprus villa holiday this year might be interested in seeing the wreck of the Zenobia ferry, which is becoming an increasingly popular attraction.
Divers are showing strong interest in the shipwreck owing to the fact that it provides a range of impressive underwater views and rich sea life, the Cyprus Mail reported.
The 12,000-tonne Zenobia capsized 30 years ago this month off the coast of Larnaca during a crossing from Crete to Athens.
Today, the ferry's wreck is reportedly seen as one of the leading dive sites of its kind in the world.
Chris Martin of Alpha Divers, a company based in Larnaca, told the Mail: "This is a brilliant dive; it is a real asset for the Cyprus tourism industry.
"She is a fantastic wreck and a real asset to the Cyprus diving market."
Seeing the Zenobia is an option for people for novice divers who will be taking a Cyprus villa holiday this year, as the top of the wreck is located only 15 metres below sea level.
The maximum depth is 42 metres, meaning there is plenty of scope for exploration for more experienced divers.
