Seniors Golf tournament: Paphos

The Cyprus Amateur Seniors Open takes place from 5th October through to the 7th at the Secret Valley Golf Club.

You don't have to be a resident of Cyprus to qualify for the tournament but all competitors must have been born on or before 1st October 1957 to meet the age restrictions and have a handicap of 24 or less.

The tournament is decided over stroke play and has two rounds, the eventual winner is the leader after two rounds and if there is a tie then a sudden death play off over holes one, eight and nine will reveal the champion.

But players competing can obtain a 15 per cent discount when flying with Cyprus Airways and benefit from a free golf bag allowance.

The competition is set near to Paphos so those on the holiday not watching or playing will find many things to do, a visit to the Castle of Paphos would not be a waist.

Holidaymakers can visit the fort, originally built as a Byzantine stronghold to protect the harbour, and learn about its history.

Visitors will also want to see the mosaics in the Houses of Dionysos, the ancient Odeon Theatre, or the pillar to which Saint Paul was allegedly tied and whipped.
