Sample the world's oldest wine on a Cyprus villa holiday
Cyprus villa holidays could prove a popular option among wine enthusiasts this summer, with a festival celebrating one of the world's oldest alcoholic beverages set to be held in Limassol.
The 2010 Commandaria Festival will run from July 26th to August 1st and will feature a number of events celebrating a wine that has been produced in Cyprus for centuries.
Commandaria is an amber-coloured dessert wine that is made from sun-dried Xynisteri and Mavro grapes.
It is thought to be the world's oldest named wine still in circulation and represents a production style that can be dated all the way back to 800 BC.
Holiday makers staying in Cyprus villas can visit Limassol to sample the wine and enjoy the traditional Greek and Cypriot music, dancing and other events that are arranged during the festival.
There will also be a range of local delicacies on offer to enjoy with the drink.
People who decide to visit Limassol during a Cyprus holiday will have the opportunity to see some of the city's popular attractions, such as the ancient sites of Kourion and Amathus.
