Running in historic Cyprus

The use of regional airports has grown hand in hand with growth in low cost airlines taking holidaymakers abroad.

According to Chris Goater head of media and public affairs at the Airport Operators Association, the growth in regional airports has allowed a "growth in ability of low cost airlines."

This means people can fly easier and cheaper to their desired destinations such as Cyprus.

Holidaymakers who like to travel by speed will be interested in running the Kolossi half marathon that takes place in November.

The run begins and ends at Geroskipou and is scheduled to start at 10.05 on 25th November.

Runners must be over 16 but the delights of the area will not be lost on holidaymakers of any age, there is also a 'fun-run' for those under 16.

The nearby Crusader castle is of historic medieval importance to Cyprus, the surrounding vineyards were accompanied, in the medieval times, by sugar-cane, olive, cotton, locust-tree, and cereal plantations.

History suggests that Kolossi came under the occupation of the Order of the Knights Templars, and the Knights of the Order of Saint John after the Pope declared the Templars illegal.

It is a perfect distraction for all the members of the family who come to cheer on the runners but not to participate themselves and with more low-cost airlines flying from more UK destinations, there is no excuse to stay at home.
