Ostentatious travel a thing of the past?
Ostentatious travel is no longer popular, one expert has noted, indicating that more people may be seeking a cheap villa in Cyprus in which to enjoy their holiday.
Even Brits with money to burn no longer spend thousands on holidays, preferring to budget, according to Jasmine Gardner, writing in the London Evening Standard.
She explains that the top resorts have cottoned on to the fact that people are no longer looking for eye-catching luxury - and this new generation of travellers has been dubbed the "new luxurians" by trend-forecasting agency the Future Laboratory.
This type of traveller no longer wants a fuss, explains Ms Gardner, but they do want a holiday to remember.
People staying in a cheap villa in Cyprus, therefore, are less likely to spend time relaxing on the beach, and more time exploring their surroundings.
Fine dining is also a thing of the past, with resorts swapping caviar and champagne for burgers and fries.
