March is carnival time in Cyprus

Food is a big focus of the celebration with Limassol, Larnaka and Paphos all offering exciting parades and fancy dress balls to be enjoyed by all.

The first week of the festival is called Meat Week or Kreatini, as it is known locally, and is the last week of meat eating before Easter, while the second week is known as cheese week, or Tyrini.

Festivities get underway on the Thursday of Meat Week and highlights include the King Carnival, as well as a special carnival for children, meaning families can really get involved in the event.

Holiday makers visiting the island during carnival time would be well advised to head to Paphos because of everything it has to offer visitors.

As well as the carnival, visitors can enjoy walks through stunning scenery and some historical education.

Paphos castle is one of these attractions and was originally built as a Byzantine fort to protect the harbour.
