Kick off a Cyprus holiday with a trip to Kykkos
One of the wealthiest and most famous monasteries in Cyprus, Kykkos was founded way back in 1100 and may be the perfect place to find out about the wonderful and varied island's past.
Byzantine emperor Alexios I Komnenos reportedly founded the Holy Monastery of the Virgin of Kykkos and situated inside the monastery itself, the museum boasts a wealth of holy objects, carvings, manuscripts, icons and vestments.
The monastery's representatives claim it contains "invaluable religious relics" that have been collected over hundreds of years by monks. These relics are said to have "overcome the ravages of time" and are laced with "meaning and history".
Found high up the north-west face of the Troodos mountains, the monastery can be found by many of the stunning villa that can be found on the beautiful west coast of Cyprus.
