Join in the Procession of Lazarus on a Cyprus villa holiday
Taking place on April 19th - eight days before the Greek Orthodox Church celebrates Easter, the people of Larnaca celebrate their patron saint.
Holiday makers taking a trip out of their family villa in Cyprus will be greeted by a lively procession featuring the icon of Lazarus.
The icon is taken from the local church to be paraded through the streets by the priest who also gives a church service before setting off on the procession.
Saint Lazarus was said to have been raised from the dead by Jesus and visited Cyprus after his adventures in the tomb.
Locals hold him as their patron saint because he was ordained in Larnaca as the area's bishop.
After the lively procession is over, holiday makers on a Cyprus holiday can enjoy an afternoon relaxing beside their private villa pool.
