Join Lemesos Carnival festivities when in Cyprus
Individuals due to depart on a Cyprus holiday next month may be interested in learning more about an annual festival that takes place on the island throughout February.
The Lemesos Carnival is described by VisitCyprus.com as "one of the most traditional events" held in the country.
"It is a joyful and colourful event that attracts both young and old, locals and visitors, making Lemesos the carnival centre of Cyprus," the tourism organisation stated.
This year, the festivities will begin on February 19th and run until February 26th.
Events and activities including children's parades, evening singers and open-air parties are organised to celebrate the event by the Limassol Municipality.
The festival is designed to remember the first time the Carnival king appeared in Lemesos, which relates back to the Dionysical events of the classical antiquity.
It takes place 50 days before Easter and in the first week Orthodox Christians stop eating meat.
