Holiday in Cyprus presents chance to take look at ancient mosques
Tourists planning to take a holiday in Cyprus may be pleased to learn some of the country's most beautiful buildings are to be restored.
The Department of Antiquities has confirmed it will splash the cash in a bid to revamp 17 mosques on the Mediterranean island, reports In Cyprus.
Archaeological officer George Philotheou and curator of antiquities Marina Solomidou-Ieronymidou were interviewed by CNA recently on the topic.
The pair, who are in charge of all the restorations, revealed the buildings have been awarded ancient monument status, the website states.
One to look out for is Touzla in Larnaka, which was previously a medieval church, while Limassol's Kebir mosque was once a Byzantine church.
Completing a tour of the historic monuments may be an enjoyable activity to undertake while on holiday in Cyprus in the future.
