Holiday in Cyprus 'offers much more than just sand and sea'
While the coastal resorts of Cyprus are undoubtedly beautiful and highly desirable to many travellers, one expert has moved to reassure future visitors there is more to the island than that.
Maria Socratous, tourist officer for the Cyprus Tourism Organisation, says the rural parts of the country offer tourists the chance to gain an authentic experience.
Indeed, those who do not enjoy sunbathing or swimming may find a Cyprus holiday is still the right choice.
"We have developed six wine routes, three cycling routes, religious routes and cultural routes that are just a suggestion of what people can do once they are [on] the island," she explains.
Ms Socratous goes on to suggest hiking, biking and drinking wine are three of the most popular activities with local people, meaning visitors who follow suit and try these will be engaging in Cyprus's traditions.
The organisation recently confirmed more than 700,000 people from the UK arrived in Cyprus in the first ten months of 2010, almost half of the total amount.
