Green Monday

A festival to celebrate the culture of the area will give visitors an insight into the history of Cyprus and allows holidaymakers to enjoy a unique festival.

Fancy dress is often used by locals and activities and events take place all over the island with music, dancing and vegetarian food all in abundance.

The first Monday in Lent is a Bank Holiday all over the island and this is when the picnics occur.

Vegetarian meals consisting of bread, vegetables and olives mark the start of the Greek Orthodox festival of fasting and contemplation.

During the event the sky in Pahpos is filled with kites and locals compete in a flying competition that takes place near the lighthouse and is quite a spectacle for tourists visiting the area.

During Lent meat products are forbidden so Cypriot pastries are popular with spinach, pumpkin and raisins making key ingredients.
