Grandmother celebrates 100 years in Cyprus

Peggy McAlpine took off from a 763 metre high peak in a mountain range in northern Cyprus to mark the occasion.

Speaking to the Times, she described the wonderful experience and was ready to do it again.

"I was sitting in a chair floating above the mountains. I saw the full range of the coast of the island from one end to the other, with ships on the Mediterranean, which was as blue as it is always said to be."

Holidaymakers visiting Cyprus this winter may not want to try their luck hand gliding but seeing the views described by Mrs McAlpine is something not to be missed.

This winter the orange and yellow colours of the citrus fruits will be on display and will add a different aspect to the landscape.
