Get wet at the Festival of the Flood on a scorching Cyprus holiday

Unlike the local flooding that may be occurring on these shores, the festival celebrates a flood of a different kind - that found in the Greek tale of Deukalion and the book of Genesis, according to Whatsonwhen.

The site says proceedings start with a ceremony in which the local priest hurls a cross into the sea to be rescued, with the brave saviour receiving a blessing and the prize of a sovereign.

Following this religious act, the partying begins, lasts for a few days and usually involves copious amounts of water.

The ceremonies take place all over Cyprus and those renting a villa at the Aphrodite Hills resort can watch Paphos' version of events between June 14th and June 16th in between taking advantage of the luxurious leisure facilities.
