Cyprus 'the jewel of the Mediterranean'
In an article for the Telegraph, Moll Abbott said there is a "great abundance" of wildlife in Cyprus, from endangered turtles to rare wild sheep.
As well as catching a glimpse of these creatures, holiday makers can also explore the island's rich Byzantine heritage, visit beautiful vineyards and follow nature trails through a wide variety of different landscapes.
However, those who simply want to sit back on their sun lounger and relax will also find everything they need in Cyprus.
"The jasmine and thyme-scented air, sunshine and shimmering sea of the birthplace of Aphrodite will not disappoint those seeking a conventional seasonal break," said the writer.
Families considering a Cyprus holiday could rent a villa in the village of Aghia Marina, which boasts a peaceful setting away from the main tourist resorts, yet is ideally located for exploring some of the larger towns and the surrounding countryside.
