Cyprus seen as 'a popular special interest destination' by Brits

Brits look to be booking up villas in Cyprus in their droves because of the island's appeal as a special interest tourism destination.

This is one of the findings established by the Cyprus Tourism Organisation after bringing together the results of three independent surveys.

According to the study, the Mediterranean tourism hotspot is currently ranked 12th when it comes to British holiday makers hunting out a special interest getaway.

Furthermore, Cyprus Tourism Organisation's survey found that 63 per cent of British tourists associate Cyprus with trips abroad full of sun and sea adventures.

Annita Demetriades, deputy head director of tourism at the institute, pointed out that "the development of alternative forms of tourism contributes greatly to shaping a fully fledged image of Cyprus as a tourist destination".

Despite the association of Cyprus holidays to golden beaches and dazzling waters, the Cyprus Mail has recently reported that heavy snow showers in Troodos have seen holiday makers "flocking to the mountains" of the Mediterranean island.
