Cyprus holiday 'an archaeologist's dream'
The New York Times' Frugal Traveller blog has detailed the historical delights of a Cyprus holiday.
People staying in a villa on the island's west coast may wish to contrast the tranquillity of their accommodation with day trips to some of Cyprus' famous sites.
The blog recommends Famagusta, described as "an amateur archaeologist's dream".
"Strewn around the old city were the walls of a Venetian palace, a Gothic church converted into a mosque, a castle said to have been that of Shakespeares Othello," it stated.
The Salamis Ruins were also recommended for wannabe Indiana Jones's looking for an adventure.
A potential Cyprus villa base for amateur archaeologists is Coral Bay, which Indigo Guide describes as one of the isle's last true wildernesses, famed for its natural beauty and historical splendour.
