Cyprus holiday 'a popular option for Brits'

Taking a holiday in Cyprus is a popular choice among British travellers, many of whom are lured to the Mediterranean island by 400 miles of idyllic beaches.

Saundra Satterlee, writing for the Daily Telegraph, explores the history of Cyprus and the events that have helped to shape it as one of Europe's premier sun destinations.

It is the country's complicated history, involving numerous cycles of conquests and settlements, that has left it so rich in history.

Indeed, discovering archaeological highlights remains one of the top activities to enjoy while on a Cyprus holiday.

Ms Satterlee adds a spell of 35 years as a British colony not only added to the island's history but perhaps also helped it to elevate itself to the top of many UK holidaymakers' lists of dream destinations.

A piece by the Daily Mail recently praised the Cypriot resort of Pomos as a good place to holiday, noting its warmth, culture and affordability as key advantages.
