British tourists book holidays in Cyprus to escape winter blues
As the snow fell and the temperatures plummeted in the UK last month, an increasing number of people travelled to holidays in Cyprus and other warm destinations with one airline.
Monarch has revealed it transported almost 200,000 individuals during December, despite the chaos caused by the snow across Britain.
This was a 12.8 per cent rise on the same month in 2009, while the carrier also achieved its highest-ever December capacity rate.
And among the most popular spots people were heading to in a bid to soak up some sun was Cyprus, where luxury villas could be the accommodation of choice for many.
The island's unique blend of fascinating history and reliable weather may make it a favourite with Britons looking to escape their chilly homes.
Cyprus was the destination chosen by ex-Beatle Sir Paul McCartney during the autumn half-term break, when he was pictured by the Daily Mail relaxing in the Mediterranean country with his daughter.
