Book a Cyprus villa holiday for a water-themed celebration

Water babies on a Cyprus villa holiday should head to the island's seaside towns to experience a unique water-themed celebration.

Kataklysmos, translated as Festival of the Flood, takes place each year in June and is unique to Cyprus.

The celebrations are thought to link back to the birth of Aphrodite, who arose from the waves on the southern coast of the island, states lovelycyprus.net.

According to the website the coastal town of Larnaca "comes alive with fairs, boat races, music, dance and poetry.

"In Limassol, the celebration is a watered down version. There is a fair on the promenade and all day you can see young girls and boys throwing water balloons at each other and playing with water guns."

After a day at the beach holiday makers may wish to sample the local cuisine in one of the many waterfront tavernas.

Serving specialities such as freshly caught fish or a range of traditional Greek mezes, it makes for a relaxing evening after the days festivities.
