Book a Cyprus villa holiday for a unique Easter celebration
People going on a Cyprus villa holiday this month have the opportunity to join in the much-anticipated Lemesos Carnival.
Held during the first two weeks of February, the carnival celebrates the period before 50 day Greek Orthodox Lenten period, with a focus on feasting, dancing, parades and fancy-dress balls.
Although predominately held in the town of Limassol, festivities take place all over the island.
According to the event's website, the origin of the carnival is linked with the history of the Greeks, a festivity related to "classical antiquity".
"Today, the town has grown bigger and the distances are endless. However, the serenaders have not abandoned their effort," the site states.
"They wander through the streets in golden dresses and multicoloured costumes on their motorised chairs or walking and offer entertainment, reminding us of those good old times."
The island of Cyprus is blessed with golden sandy beaches and rugged coastlines, providing a carefree destination for a family holiday.
Traditional villages and town squares are a hive of activity, and the island is steeped in cultural heritage – with ancient monuments and sites portraying over 9,000 years of history.
