Book a Cyprus holiday and visit the Donkey Sanctuary

Animal lovers and families with small children may wish to add a trip to the Donkey Sanctuary to their Cyprus holiday itinerary.

Situated in the foothills of the Troodos Mountains, the shelter is home to more than 120 donkeys which have been abandoned or mistreated.

Visitors can meet the animals in their stables and out in the exercise yards and chat to sanctuary employees about their work.

As well as providing a home for the donkeys, the centre also runs an outreach programme for owners of donkeys and mules on the island who need its help.

The Cyprus Donkey Sanctuary is one of several around the world by a UK-based charity founded by Dr Elisabeth Svendsen.

Families will be able to continue supporting the shelter once their Cyprus holiday is over and cloud even visit another centre during a future overseas break, as sanctuaries are also run in Greece and Spain.

Those renting Cyprus villas in Polis will be able to drive to the Cyprus Donkey Sanctuary Donkey Sanctuary easily.

Polis itself is a small town where local traditions are still very much alive, so may be great for tourists hoping to see the real Cyprus.
