Book a Cyprus holiday and head to mini-Miami

Those booking Cyprus villa holidays this winter will be able to enjoy history and luxury during a day trip to Limassol.

According to travel journalist Sian Matheson, the city has been nick-named mini-Miami thanks to its 15-kilometre coastline and its lively promenade.

In an article for Wales on Sunday, she said Limassol has experienced something of a facelift in recent years, with many of its abandoned warehouses being turned into trendy bars and restaurants.

But although modern sophistication is abundant in the city, it also retains much of its historical character, with winding streets and ancient buildings.

Holiday makers can discover more about Cyprus' history by visiting the medieval museum in Limassol Castle, where artefacts from the Christian, Byzantine, Egyptian and Turkish eras can be found.

"Hiring a car to explore the island is a good idea," said Ms Matheson. "Just a short trip out of Limassol are wine-producing villages."

Tourists renting Cyprus villas in Pissouri will be in a great location to drive to Limassol and explore the surrounding countryside.

Pissouri itself has plenty of Cypriot character, with several tavernas serving up tasty local dishes and offering entertainment in the form of music and dancing.
