Book a Cyprus holiday and go birdwatching
Wildlife lovers heading off on Cyprus villa holidays may be interested to hear that the country has a thriving bird population.
According to the official Cyprus tourism website, there are more than 350 species living on the island.
Some 50 of these are native to Cyprus, including the griffon vulture and the chaffinch, while 30 are migratory species that breed in the country.
Another 200 or so species visit Cyprus during their migratory journeys in the spring and the autumn months.
Tourists booking winter holidays in Cyprus may be able to spot flamingos, which live on the salt lakes between October and March each year.
For those planning ahead to next summer, the colourful bee-eater is one to look out for, as is the great spotted cuckoo, which was one of the first migrant breeders to arrive in the country this summer.
Families renting Cyprus villas in Pissouri could be in a great location for birdwatching, as the village is set on a hillside surrounded by vineyards.
It is also just a short distance away from the beach near Paphos where Aphrodite is said to have emerged from the waves.
