BA marks 75 years of Cyprus flights
The official residence of the British High Commissioner in Nicosia formed a suitably historic backdrop to the celebration, which was attended by BA frequent flyers - along with local politicians and business leaders.
High commissioner Peter Millett paid tribute to the "remarkable record" which BA has in Cyprus "which few airlines - or indeed countries - could possibly match," Xak.com reports.
He termed the ceremony a "celebration of what makes the relations between Britain and Cyprus so special.
"It touches on areas we all value: tourism, family links, education, business, friendship."
BA Country Manager for Cyprus Marianna Trokoudes, also speaking at the recent event, compared the success of the nation and the airline respectively across the eight decades of their relationship.
"Those years have seen Cyprus forge its place in the world as an independent nation and as a full member state of the European Union, while British Airways has established itself as one of the most highly regarded airlines in the world," she said.
BA, then known as British Imperial Airways, commenced operations to Cyprus in 1932 in the form of flying-boat mail deliveries, touching down in Limassol Bay.
