Football fans taking flights to Cyprus villas in the new year may want to keep an eye on the Champions League draw if they want to catch some of Europe's biggest teams in action.
Cypriot champions APOEL have secured top spot in Group G of the prestigious tournament, after displaying their prowess on the pitch against some challenging opponents.
Though the team had to endure a nervy end to the group stages after suffering a 2-1 home defeat against Shakhtar Donetsk, the 1-1 draw between Russian heavyweights Zenit St Petersburg and Portuguese giants Porto was enough to top the table.
APOEL supporters had already seen their team pick up impressive victories against Zenit St Petersburg and Porto, along with the vital point away to the Russians which secured their progress to the knockout stages.
Topping Group G means that the likes of Italian giants AC Milan, French threats Marseille or German high-flyers Bayer Leverkusen could be next up for APOEL in their European adventure.
