AEK Larnaca keep Europa League dream alive

People heading to Cyprus villas in the new year could have the chance to catch some Europa League football action during their getaway.

Last night (December 1st) saw AEK Larnaca keep their dreams of staying in the competition alive by defeating Israeli outfit Maccabi Haifa 2-1 at home.

Strikes by the Spanish duo of Gonzalo Garcia and Gorka Pintado gave the Cyprus club the edge, with Jurica Buljat's goal for Maccabi Haifa the visitors' only reply.

The victory means that AEK Larnaca now sit on the same points as Steaua Bucharest and just one behind second-placed Maccabi Haifa in Group J.

Draws against Steaua Bucharest and group winners Schalke 04 have already displayed that the team have the skill and might to grab vital points.

Fans will now be anticipating the away trip to Steaua Bucharest on December 14th, as they hope to secure their passage to the last 32 of this season's Europa League.
