A trip to Argaka, Cyprus
Argaka, still a mainly agricultural village, attracts visitors to Cyprus hoping for a glimpse of how life used to be lived on the island.
Situated to the north west of the island, the village backs onto the Paphos pine forests, as well as being near both the sea and the mountains. Known for its laidback atmosphere, it is ideal for a quiet family holiday.
Argaka has a permanent population of around 1,000, with this figure growing during the summer thanks to the hotels in the area. Visitors are served by a couple of tavernas serving the local cuisine, as well as several coffee shops. The village also contains two churches.
There are also good beaches nearby, with a sand and shingle shoreline adjoining the village itself.
The village is around 5km from Latchi, a larger town well known for its fresh fish and good restaurants. The hilly, forested Akamas peninsula, on which Argaka is found, is also known as being an especially beautiful area of the island.
