Where to seek out history around Crete villas
Heraklion provides a wealth of entertaining venues for those staying in Crete villas to explore.
One building which should be visited by holiday makers based in the region is the Cretan Folklore and History Museum.
Such a venue offers tourists the opportunity to seek out many agricultural traditions of Crete, some which date from the last 100 years and other that stretch back to older centuries.
Meanwhile, the region is also home to the Greek island's Natural History Museum, an 800 square metre centre with a ton of interesting artefacts.
These range from some of Crete's animal breeds to an array of the destination's plant collections, many of which come with supporting photo material.
Brits who want to explore even more history while occupying villas in Crete may also find appeal at Heraklion's Venetian Fortress.
The building was first erected when Venetian forces ruled the Greek island, and comes complete with two floors styled from massive rocks.
