Visit villas in Crete to take a step through history

History can come alive if holiday makers visit a couple of atmospheric venues during their getaways to Crete villas.

The popular Greek island is home to both the Museum for the Battle of Crete and the Heraklion Venetian Fortress, each of which presents great days out.

Furthermore, each venue can be found in the Crete city of Heraklion, so tourists do not need to travel far to take in both attractions.

Those who step through the doors of the Museum for the Battle of Crete have the chance to gain extra knowledge into the island's resistance during the second world war.

Items on display include fascinating photographs which set the scene of the battle, the uniforms of those on guard around the island during the fight and collectable newspaper cuttings which reported on the action from the frontline.

Meanwhile, the Heraklion Venetian Fortress can be dated back to the 1500s, though the original structure was destroyed by an earthquake back in 1303.

People visiting the venue today can take in an array of exhibitions, cultural shows and theatre performances which all detail the timeline of the standout fortress.
