Timing bookings 'can cut cost of villa holidays'

People planning Crete villa holidays and other overseas breaks this summer could save money if they book their flights and accommodation at the right time, according to a travel expert.

Sophie Butler published an article in the Telegraph that listed a number of ways for travellers to go abroad in the peak summer season without breaking the bank.

Those considering a villa holiday were encouraged to book their accommodation after mid-August, as prices are often lower in the last couple of weeks of the school holiday.

Another way for consumers planning a Crete villa break or any other trip abroad to cut back on their outlay is to book flights at off-peak times.

Ms Butler said that avoiding weekend flights is a good rule of thumb, as they can often be much pricier than services that depart halfway through the week.

Crete villa holidays are a good option for people who are searching for sun, sea and relaxation this summer.

The island is also home to a number of fascinating historical sites such as Knossos.
