Sultana festival on a Crete holiday
The Sultana Festival takes place in August in a place called Sitia and visitors can learn about the production of sultanas.
One of Crete's most famous local produces, the sultana is used in plenty of Greek dishes and in many of the restaurants on the island.
The festival is celebrated by Cretan dances in the main square of Sitia meaning travellers also get their fill of culture as well as food.
Holiday makers will find that sultanas are part of a healthy island diet eaten by the locals which includes goat's cheese, pork and olive breads.
Holiday makers can enjoy some of Crete's history as well as its produce with a trip to one of the many archaeological sites that can be found on the island.
Sitia contains lots of ruins and also has a small archaeological museum for curious visitors to explore.
