Street markets in Crete
The Laiki, or popular markets, are large Greek street markets that sell local food, herbs, clothing, shoes and many other items.
Farmers come to the markets to sell their produce directly to the buyers and the market moves around every day so that locals do not have to travel far to get the best fresh produce.
Visitors to the market can expect brilliant colours and an exciting and noisy atmosphere.
Herbs are a big part of the street markets and dittany, chamomile, spearmint, sage and oregano are regulars, along with many others.
After a morning of shopping through the stalls and sampling this energetic Mediterranean market, visitors can dine in the food vans around the area.
Souvlaki is a popular dish and is served with bread and there is plenty to wash it down with.
Although full of people and lots of hustle and bustle the event is good chance for holiday makers looking to experience the hospitality and charm of Crete.
