Stanfords recommends good read for a Crete holiday
Travellers looking for a good book to read during a Crete villa holiday this summer might be interested in The Island by Victoria Hislop.
The novel is one of ten "great reads for lazy summer holidays" recommended by Stanfords bookshop.
Set on Crete, The Island is described as a tale "of a family rent by tragedy, war and passion".
It follows the character of Alexis Fielding, who embarks on a journey to learn more about her mother's mysterious past and discovers that she is intimately connected with Crete and its history.
For people planning a Turkey holiday this summer, Stanfords recommends Jeremy Seal's A Fez of the Heart, which uses the history of a hat to explore the culture and heritage of the country.
Alex Stewart, chief buyer at Stanfords, encouraged people planning a Crete holiday or any other break this year to take a novel with them, stating that "it's as important to give as much consideration to your reading matter as it is to a holiday wardrobe".
