See the 'home of the minotaur'
The Palace of Knossos is the place where the mythological minotaur is said to have lived and it is one of the must-see ancient sites in the whole of Greece, let alone Crete, according to What's on When.
A part man and part bull beast, the minotaur lived in the centre of a labyrinth built for King Minos of Crete.
The ruins of Minos' palace at Knossos were excavated in the early 20th, but the labyrinth still lies buried and holiday makers could even discover it themselves with a visit to the amazing archaeological site.
Agios Nikolaos can be found on the north-western coast of the island and is a short drive away from the Palace of Knossos.
After visiting the site, Crete holiday makers can return to the resort and relax on one of the many blue flag beaches that surround it.
